Meals for the elderly and handicapped

Life in Jacsonville is very hard for those who cannot plow and hoe their fields.  Younger family members often leave for the capital or bigger towns where there is more work leaving their elderly parents and handicapped family members in Jacsonville.  Food is extremely expensive now and many of them are suffering from food insecurity.  Berteau, one of our collaborators in Haiti, holds weekly meetings at CHEAHP, the center for the handicapped and aged.  The meetings are usually attended by 30 to 50 people and at the end of the meeting, they receive clothes and a packet of food to supplement what they have at home.  $600 will supply the food needed for this program for a month.

Berteau also organizes a huge Christmas party with an annual attendance of 400-500 people.  Per Berteau: ”Here thing still the same.  The women are suffering lots of violence.  We still working hard to see if we have something change…we live in a dictatorship with no elections for over 10 years…things still not easy and this year our budget is for 500 people again and we need $10 for each one. Foods, drinks and kits to go home included as well as toys for the children. The only once a year those people have chance to taste a good life. Many many kids always be there too. I know life is not easy there but if some things you can do I will be appreciate.”  Anything you can give to help would be appreciated.
